Calamity Brains:
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! is both campy fun and painfully bad – which is, of course, the point. A ridiculously over-the-top homage to B-horror and all of its bizarre villains, Attack sends up a loving critique of the genre.
The plot is inane, the acting painful, the jokes awkward – but that’s the fun of it. The star, of course, is the tomatoes (of varying sizes) and their new killer instincts. Though the rest of the movie ranges from cringe-worthy to downright atrocious, there are a few moments for everyone here. (And let’s be honest – no one is watching Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! for high art.)
It’s campy and silly and everyone should probably see it at least once. Though some of the other entries into this bizarre series feature a more fun and cohesive plot, the original is still worth a watch just for the sheer gleeful ridiculousness that earned it a place in bad movie history.
