Calamity Brains:
Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus is pretty standard The Asylum fare: two Godzilla-esque giant creatures vie for superiority while humans try desperately to restrain them. In this case, a standard Mega Shark from the franchise is facing off against a prehistoric crocodile while Jaleel White tries to save the world. It’s not a bad premise, but as usual for this run of movies, it’s somewhat lacking.
As much as I enjoyed Jaleel White as the main character in a creature feature, this is not the best of the Mega Shark bunch. It has the obligatory lazy CGI, which is always entertaining, but even with some star-studded extras, this wasn’t a particularly exciting flick. Super-fertile crocodiles and secret agents from NOAA (seriously) don’t make up for the lack of one-on-one titanic combat. The acting was a bit better than average for Asylum movies, but I was definitely still bored more than once.
But hey, if you’ve ever wanted to see Urkel and the Doctor (Robert Picardo) fight prehistoric monsters, maybe this movie will be right up your alley. When it comes to modern creature features, you could do worse.
